As you all know, I am the host in my family for every holiday meal. And while we definitely stick with some family favorites, like my Mashed Butternut Squash and Sweet Potatoes and Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, I love to find new ways to serve the Thanksgiving classics. These Salted Maple Roasted Sweet Potatoes still keep a sweet option on your table, without added processed sugars.

Ingredients

Labeled ingredients for salted maple roasted sweet potatoes.
  • Sweet potatoes: Especially when roasted, they easily caramelize to be sweet and tender.
  • Maple syrup: Real maple syrup is naturally sweet and somewhat woodsy.
  • Cinnamon: Warm, earthy, and subtly sweet, it pairs well with maple syrup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you soak sweet potatoes before cooking?

Soaking sweet potatoes before roasting isn’t necessary, but it can help make them crispier if that’s your goal. For this recipe, you’ll want the sweet potatoes to be soft and caramelized, so skip the soak and let the maple syrup and salt work their magic in the oven.

Is it healthier to replace sugar with maple syrup?

Maple syrup is a natural sweetener that contains trace minerals and antioxidants, making it a slightly better choice than refined sugar. However, it’s still a source of sugar, so like I always say, moderation is key!

Can you make roasted sweet potatoes ahead of time?

Yes! These roasted sweet potatoes reheat beautifully. Roast them up to two days in advance, store in an airtight container, and reheat in the oven until warmed through and caramelized again. Perfect for holiday prep or Sunday meal planning.
