Holding an orange ginger detox smoothie.

One of the many benefits of starting your day off with a smoothie is that you can adapt your go-to recipe with whatever fruits and veggies are in season. In the spring that means strawberry smoothies, in the summer I love using peaches, and in the fall I love a pumpkin protein smoothie. Today’s recipe is this Orange Ginger Detox Smoothie, which is full of sweet and tangy flavor.

Ingredients

  • Orange: Full of sweetness and vitamin C, it adds just the right amount of tangy sweetness to balance out the other ingredients.
  • Carrots: Sweet and bright, it pairs perfectly with the orange juice.
  • Flax seed meal: Mostly flavorless, it’s full of omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants.
  • Ginger: Tangy, spicy, and immunity-boosting, a little ginger can go a long way!
  • Protein powder: Whether whey based or plant based, I use vanilla flavored protein powder typically in this smoothie.
  • Lemon juice: Bright, fresh flavor that adds some tartness for the sweetness of the carrots and orange.

How to make an Orange Ginger Detox Smoothie

Start your orange ginger detox smoothie by peeling the orange, peeling and chopping your carrots, and grating your ginger.

Then squeeze your fresh lemon juice.

Then take your orange, carrots, and ginger and add them to your blender.

Then add the protein powder, flax seed meal, and lemon juice. Finish with some water and ice, then blend until smooth and it reaches your desired consistency.

Add more ice or water, depending on how thick you want it, then pour into glasses and serve. Enjoy your Orange Ginger Detox Smoothie!

Shake It Up

  • Add some greens. You could easily add some spinach or kale to this smoothie, and you’d barely taste it!
  • Make it more tropical. Throw in some mango, banana, or other citrus fruits to give it more of a tropical smoothie flair!
