This thick and creamy café mocha smoothie is made with cocoa powder, Greek yogurt, and instant espresso powder to create the ultimate protein-packed breakfast smoothie recipe.

It’s no surprise that I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but the exception includes anything with chocolate! My husband also has a weakness for a mocha Frappuccino, so I figured I’d let us both indulge a bit, but take the idea and give it a healthier twist by turning it into a smoothie. My Café Mocha Smoothie has the creamy, chocolatey taste we both love, while being packed with protein and vitamins!
Ingredients

- Banana: Creamy texture and a great natural sweetener, as well as full of vitamins like potassium, you can use a frozen banana to use less ice!
- Greek yogurt: I use either plain or vanilla Greek yogurt as the base of this smoothie for the probiotics and increased protein. For a dairy-free, vegan option, you could use almond milk or oat milk.
- Chocolate protein powder: Adds to the chocolate flavor and also makes the smoothie more filling. You could also use vanilla protein powder if that’s what you have!
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: Full of antioxidants, very low in calories, and adds wonderful chocolate flavor.
- Espresso powder: Instant espresso powder adds the flavor of coffee and a kick of caffeine to this smoothie.
How to Make a Cafe Mocha Smoothie

Start your café mocha smoothie by adding all of your ingredients to your blender, along with a handful of ice. Blend until smooth, adding more ice or some water until you get to your desired consistency.

Then pour evenly into glasses.

If you’re feeling fancy, top with some chocolate shavings or whipped cream, then serve and enjoy your Café Mocha Smoothie!
Frequently Asked Questions
All chocolate/cocoa powder has some caffeine in it, but the real caffeine kick comes from the instant coffee added to the smoothie.
If you don’t have instant coffee, you can use ground coffee instead. It will likely affect the taste and texture, but still doable.
After blending, you can keep this smoothie in the fridge for a day, or in the freezer for a couple of months.
