Tender and sweet French toast makes for a quick and easy yet decadent weekend breakfast. For best results use real maple syrup, and if you like, serve it topped with fresh blueberries.
French toast, sometimes known as eggy bread, is a simple yet indulgent breakfast that is so easy to make. Soaking bread in an egg and milk mixture then frying until golden to create a crunchy exterior with a silky custard-like centre. We think it’s best enjoyed drowned in sweet maple syrup, but also works with berries, bananas and other toppings as well as working with savoury flavours if you’re not a fan of sweet breakfasts.
1.Whisk eggs in a medium bowl, then whisk in cream, milk, cinnamon and sugar.
2.Heat a quarter of the butter in a medium frying pan over medium heat. Dip two bread slices into egg mixture, one at a time; cook bread about 1 minute each side or until browned on both sides. Remove french toast from pan; cover to keep warm.
3.Repeat step 2 to make a total of eight french toasts.
4.Serve toasts dusted with sifted icing sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.
You could also use slices of brioche or panettone instead of white bread.
