While most mornings you can find me with a smoothie in my glass, there are days that I’ll start with a hot (or ice cold) glass of tea, depending on the day. Today I’m sharing a favorite of mine which is super simple: it uses only 3 ingredients and will take you no more than 5 minutes. My Orange Ginger Tea is delicious both hot or served over ice, so you can enjoy it any time of year!

Ingredients

  • Black tea: Earthy, bold, and somewhat nutty in flavor, black tea has caffeine for energy and is loaded with antioxidants.
  • Orange peel: Rich in calcium and provitamins, it adds intense citrus flavor.
  • Ginger: Chalk full of vitamins and nutrients, it’s sweet and spicy in flavor that pairs well with orange.

How to Make Orange Ginger Tea

Step 1. Start by peeling your orange and cutting your ginger into small pieces. You could also use a cheese grater and grate it, or use some fresh ginger paste.

Step 2. Then in a large pitcher or tea pot, add your tea bags.

Step 5. Let it steep, following the package instructions for your tea brand, and to your own tastes. Then give it a good stir to make sure flavors are all evenly incorporated.

Step 6. Then pour into a glass. On this particular day, I was feeling like an iced tea, but this tea can be drank hot or cold.

Easy Substitutions

  • Don’t have oranges? If you don’t have any oranges, you could make a similar tea using lemon.
  • Sweeten it up. I personally drink my tea without sweetener, but if it’s too bitter, try adding some honey or licorice root.
  • Make it an herbal tea. If you don’t drink black or green tea, you could make this with an herbal fruit tea or chamomile and still reap most of the benefits.

Ingredients

  • 8 black tea bags (such as Liptons, Rose’s or PG Tips)
  • 1 medium orange peel only
  • 1 tablespoon ginger freshly grated
  • 8 cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil and place 8 tea bags in a large pitcher.
  2. Meanwhile, carefully remove peel from one orange. Be careful to avoid the bitter, white pith – you only want the bright orange peel. A small sharp knife or carrot peeler works well.
  3. Place orange peel and grated ginger in a pitcher on top of the tea bags.
  4. Pour boiling hot water in the pitcher and let steep 10 for minutes.
  5. Serve hot or chill to serve iced.
