I love what I do for work, and I absolutely love being a mom. But during the summer months when the boys are also home full-time, being a working mom can be especially draining! Some nights I just need a moment to me, with a refreshing drink to unwind and decompress. This Greyhound Cocktail is perfect for warm summer nights to relax, and the simplicity allows you to make it in no time at all!

Ingredients

  • Gin or vodka: I prefer to use gin in my cocktails when it’s an option, but vodka works great, too.
  • Grapefruit juice: Tart, bright, citrusy flavor that plays well with both gin and vodka.
  • Fruit slices: While optional, I love to garnish my greyhound with fresh slices of limes and grapefruit.

HOw to Make a Greyhound Cocktail

To make your greyhound cocktail, take your cocktail shaker and add ice. Then add the fresh grapefruit juice.

Follow with your gin or vodka, then shake until chilled and combined. Pour into glasses filled with ice! If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can also make the cocktail in individual glasses and just stir to combine.

Garnish with fresh lime and grapefruit slices, then enjoy your Greyhound Cocktail! If you want to make it a little fizzy, you can top them with some club soda!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it better to use vodka or gin in a greyhound cocktail?

You can truly use either one for a great greyhound, but gin definitely adds another level of flavor with the hints of pine and herbal flavor.

Why is it called a greyhound cocktail?

The cocktail has been around for longer than it’s been called a greyhound, but it’s thought that the drink’s name comes from the popularity at Greyhound bus terminals.

What’s the difference between a greyhound and a salty dog?

The difference is a slight variation. A salty dog is a greyhound cocktail with a salted rim!
